DUKAL’s Favorite Vacation Spots!

As the summer travel season ends, the marketing team at DUKAL asked all DUKAL Employees what their favorite vacation spots are! We featured some entries in our latest Summer Newsletter, but we were overwhelmed with responses so we wanted to share them here on the DUKAL Blog! Maybe one of our favorite places will become one of yours!

In high school I worked at a real estate agency at a beach on Fire Island called the Pines.  One of the agents has this incredible house right on the ocean, which my whole family rents out for a week in June.  The walk from the main area of town where the shops are and the ferry comes in to this house on the ocean is about 400 meters, so you literally just walk from ocean to bay and back all day long.  My favorite picture is of the storm coming in over the ocean that was taken from the deck of our house at about 7pm after a perfect beach day.  The ferry is 10 minutes from my house, and takes 20 minutes to get across the water, but it feels like a completely different world. – Maggie, Manager Contract Manufacture

All of my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins on my Mom’s side of the family head out to Montauk, NY every September for a family reunion.  I say that we don’t see each other often, but the majority of the people who come out live on Long Island and we get together every few months – but this is still really special.  Each family/couple rents an efficiency suite at one of the hotels on Old Montauk Highway and have pot luck lunches and dinners in the common areas and bon fires on the beach at night.  It’s a little risky because we go at the end of the season (and always after Labor Day) but the past few years we’ve been really lucky with weather. There are always stunning sunsets at Navy Beach. It’s a great cap to my favorite season! – Maggie, Manager Contract Manufacture

I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to the Caribbean islands since a little girl. My favorite island by far would be the Turks and Caicos Island in Providenciales.  From the moment I step off the plane I am in paradise and know there are NO WORRIES that week. It’s a place my family and I go to make memories that will last a lifetime.  Anything we do on the property of Beaches from snorkeling to jet skiing to just lying on the beach or by the pool is just so amazing.  I am excited to continue the tradition with my 1 ½ year old son by taking him there next year. My absolute favorite summer spot is Cupsogue Beach in Westhampton, NY. When I am there with my kids and friends I feel at peace. The beach is clean, the water is clear, and the people are so friendly. Just being there and watching my little guy ride the waves and having fun with his brand new friends gives me such a feeling of serenity. –Maria, Customer Development Specialist

The woodlands of NY State is my favorite vacation spot.  All I need is a horse, a sleeping bag, a few provisions and I’ll see you in a week. Opps, I left my smartphone behind at the barn! – Stephen, Information Systems Analyst

Disney World in Orlando, Florida is my favorite vacation spot. With over a thousand rides in six theme parks to choose from a vacation can be filled very easily. The Disney resorts also offer some of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. You don’t have to be a kid to go, I appreciate it more as an adult! As Disney continues to add to their parks it makes me want to revisit constantly; and who doesn’t love going on rides?  I’ll take riding Soarin’ or Big Thunder Mountain over a beach any day! -Stephen, Senior Graphic Artist

My family’s favorite vacation spot is Lake George, NY. My parents bought a timeshare there over 20 years ago and it had become a wonderful family tradition.  We go the first week every August, which started as a yearly vacation with my parents and sisters, has now since transitioned to my sisters and I with our kids. It is even more special now that our kids get to look forward to the trip and have memories to cherish with their cousins for the rest of their lives. We take advantage of what the lake has to offer, as well as downtown Lake George. You have to hit up Martha’s ice cream shop – that is a Lake George landmark for over 50 years! My sister, Abigail, lives in Saratoga Springs which we make part of the Lake George vacation since it is only a 30 minute drive south on the Northway. We always make a trip to the Historic Saratoga Springs racetrack. The kids love going to watch the horses and we like to do a little gambling. We also catch a concert at SPAC Saratoga Performing Arts Center. All in all it is a very special vacation tradition that we all look forward to every year and will be passed down from generation to generation! –Travis, Director of Logistics

What can I say, we love Disney… especially Epcot.  We’ve been going there before our first born could walk and have experienced everything from belly dancers, fireworks and even ambulance rides to the emergency room.  Without a doubt this is our favorite spot…the fish and chips are awesome too! – Wayne, Director of Sales-East

My favorite vacation spot is Pokhara, a city in Nepal.  In this city you have a great view of the Himalayas. – Nicole, Business Coordinator

Aruba, “One Happy Island”, has been a favorite vacation spot of my family and friends for years. Beautiful scenery, wonderful people, and amazing food have made this island our home away from home for over 15 years. – Jessica, Senior Customer Service Representative

Newport, RI is a favorite spot for us. You can drive there from Long Island and usually right before or after the official summer season there are great deals at the downtown hotels!  There is a ton to do, great restaurants, and of course the mansion tours are incredible. You can sail on the big sailboat tours or relax and do some shopping on Bowens Wharf.  You can also stop in Mystic, CT on your way! It is a great long weekend getaway. – Heather, VP of Marketing Communications and Channel Management

Orlando, FL is my favorite because it’s a great place to take your family. There is so much to do for all ages. You can start your day by going to Disney’s Animal Kingdom with your children and end your night at Universal’s CityWalk drinking a slushy from Fat Tuesdays. – Jaclyn, Assistant Controller

My favorite spots are (by Donna, VP HR and Accounting):

Maui, HI: We went up to Haleakala on Maui to view the sunrise.  We were above the clouds as you can see.  Felt like we were touching the sky!

Lake Placid, NY: Our family just loves the wilderness of the Adirondacks, the Olympic history, skiing, and the outdoors are addicting.

Adirondack Lake Placid

Pigeon Forge Tennessee and Dollywood: What a hoot for an extended family vacation!  Close to Smokey Mountain National Park as well.

Venice: What an unusual place – the food, the people, the boats, and getting lost in the back alleys.

Nantucket: Close to home yet so far away. Very laid back feel.

Universal’s Amazing World of Harry Potter: So fun!!!!
